Macomb Gardens and Greenspaces:
Exploring Homegrown Beauty In Our Backyard
Blooming in Spring 2027
from seed to story
Macomb Gardens and Greenspaces: Exploring Homegrown Beauty in Our Backyard is a passion project authored by Macomb County native and green thumb, Sarah Carter-Wallace.
I’m just going to be honest with you.
This project has somewhat selfish roots.
I have so many ideas and dreams for my yard, and not enough space to see them all fulfilled! This project began as a fun way to live vicariously through, and bond with, my neighbors. By visiting their homes and businesses, recording their garden story, and photographing their beautiful efforts, I can share the best flora and foliage Macomb County has to offer.
it’s time to take root
Want to join in on the fun?
Review the following questions and submit your story - and photos too! - for a chance to be included in this exciting project. Submission does not guarantee inclusion in the finished book, though Sarah will take great care to include as many people and spaces as possible.
No garden or greenspace is excluded from consideration, so long as the grower(s) reside in Macomb County. From expansive backyards to quirky porch pots, from massive landscapes to cozy interior collections – if it grows with soil and sunlight, Sarah wants to hear from you.
but first, the fine print
Macomb Gardens and Greenspaces: Exploring Homegrown Beauty In Our Backyard is set to publish in Spring 2027. The process for being featured in this book is as follows:
1) Macomb County residents submit text, and photos if available, of their garden or greenspace via this online form.
2) Sarah will review your submission with great care, and those that catch her editorial eye will be emailed for additional plant-obsessed questions.
3) If your garden or greenspace seems like it would be a good fit, Sarah will work to schedule an in-person interview and photo session in the season(s) of your choice.
4) During this interview, Sarah and her photographer will visit and collect more details and photos. While most interviewees are intended to be included in the final printed work, there are no guarantees.
4) The participant will receive a final, print-ready copy of their piece via email for review prior to publication. Sarah believes all participants have the right to know how their story is going to be told. Participants will have one week from this email to make edits or fully withdraw their participation.
5) Participants will not receive payment of any kind. This is a small, self-funded project and does not have a “Big Financial Backer.” Sarah will do her best to provide a free or deeply-discounted copy of Macomb Gardens to all participants, but that is not guaranteed.
